Private Instructional Coaching
One on one coaching for newer teachers can be very beneficial. Many schools provide instructional coaches, however other job demands often take precedent over guiding teachers who are new to the profession.
The ideal coaching/mentor teacher is one of trust. The current state of coaching doesn’t really allow for that kind of relationship. In the public school system, the role of the coach has been warped and it is now an unspoken expectation that coaches relay everything to admin. There is a trope about instructional coaches being eyes for the administrator; that their true role is to make life easier for the administrative team. While not all schools can be lumped into one bucket of culture and climate, I can attest that in my experience this has been true.
When I was an instructional coach, a great deal of my time was spent drafting meeting agendas and making sure that I was following a cognitive based approach to PLCs and staff meetings. What little time was left was dedicated to coaching newer teachers and that time was very limited and not held sacred.
By going with private coaching, you can be assured that in my coaching sessions with you, I am not preoccupied with other tasks nor is my advice clouded by the politics of the building. I can customize the core of the conversations around what works best for you whether that is a more cognitive, socratic based approach or if you prefer direct tips and advice.
Above all, you will be 100% assured of confidentiality. As an independent contractor, I am under no obligation to report to your administrative team. What we discuss stays strictly between us.

Home School Consultation
For years the stigma around home schooling has inhibited collaborative working relationships between educators and home school parents. I seek to change that.
I believe that home school parents working with an educator can be a dream team. We bring the pedagogical experience, and parents bring the most valuable aspect when crafting a plan for an individual child: a complete picture.
As a classroom teacher, you are very limited in your scope of the whole child. Limited interactions with parents and daily interactions within a single year can provide a snapshot of a child, but not the whole picture.
There are many reasons that parents choose to homeschool their child. Having spent nearly 20 years in the public education sector I completely understand these reasons. I’ve seen first hand how the system has evolved over the years and it is not necessarily for the better. I can work with you as you navigate the home school journey whether you are brand new to homeschooling or a seasoned veteran.
Here are the services I can bring to the table:
Provide tutoring services for your child. Are there certain concepts that your child is struggling to grasp? My knowledge of the K-12 standards can help ensure that I align our work to ensure your child is accessing content that is appropriate for their grade level/age.
Provide an objective third party consultation toward student progress and achievement. For many parents who are homeschooling their child, it is a first time experience that ends when your child concludes formal schooling. That process can be overwhelming and it is natural to wonder if your child is meeting age appropriate academic milestones. I have taught and worked with students of all ages kindergarten through 12th grade. Through my experience and my knowledge on research based practices, I can provide assessments that will help both student and parent identify what level they are at academically and help target areas for potential growth.
General Tutoring
Sometimes kids just need some general support and I can provide that. I hold a professional Colorado teaching license with an endorsement in K-6 general ed, 7-12 English language arts and K-12 English as a second language
My expertise is all subjects in grade K-6, Language Arts 7-12, Social Studies 7-12 and Algebra. I also provide support for executive functioning skills (such as organizing materials and other study habits). My tutoring services differ from others in that rather than being a high school or college student, I am a seasoned teacher and incorporate executive functioning skills that will aid in future academic success beyond the subject we’re working on at the moment.
A free 15 minute consultation is provided for all potential clients to ensure that every goal aligns with what can be provided.
